Everything you need to know about your custom aquarium or aquarium maintenance

You hear that phrase a lot lately: Go Big or Go Home.  If you are thinking about a large-scale custom aquarium at your home or business, make sure to consider all the steps involved for setup and aquarium maintenance. Taking additional time to plan, prior to buying and setting up your large tank is very worth it and will save you both money and frustration later.

If you do choose a large aquarium (over 90 gallons), make sure the floor area you are placing it on is properly supported. Remember, freshwater weighs approximately 8 lbs/gal and salt water weighs approximately 8.5 lbs/gal. In most new construction buildings (post-1960) this issue does not arise. In older buildings, placing the aquarium along a structurally supporting wall usually ensures proper aquarium support. If you are unsure of the structural capacity of the flooring, do not assume it will work. Consult an engineer for a professional opinion.

There are many more things to take into consideration, such as tank or stand construction, power access, heating & cooling, overflows & leveling, and safety.  Diamond Aquatics professional aquarium experts can help recommend the best solution for you, including the costs associated with it. Custom Aquarium

A smaller home aquarium we built-in

While we have crafted and installed many large-scale custom aquariums, it’s not a financial stretch for you to own one. If you are looking to have a custom fish tank in your home or apartment, but have a budget to consider, take a calculated approach to finding the right kind. First, look at filter and heater prices. On smaller aquariums, these tend to be the most expensive items and will give you an idea about the size of the aquarium you will be able to fit into your budget. Also keep in mind that filter manufacturers tend to overestimate their filters’ capabilities…so take their filtration advice with a grain of salt! The best way to choose a filter for your aquarium is to speak with experienced hobbyists or to the staff of your local fish store. Most times both groups of people will have good insight into the pros and cons of each filter on the market. Want to get some immediate help on figuring out what you need?  Call the experts at Diamond Aquatics at 973-356-4434 and we will be happy to help.
